Wednesday night I had the pleasure of attending WBTV’s Night of Comedy, a evening designed for TV critics to view some of the new Warner Bros. shows. I was thrilled to be a guest!
Upon arrival I was greeted with boxes of candy and alcoholic beverages then directed to a theater (and not just any theater, one of those fancy ones that have reclining chairs and waiter service) where I kicked up my feet and was served with a plate of food as the first screening of
Undateable started.
A new comedy that will premiere mid-season on NBC, Undateable is centered around a group of dudes who collectively have a thing - or several - to learn about women and dating. Comprised of a cast full of stand-up comedians who happen to be friends in real life, the chemistry is strong and works well. These guys are funny! Chris D’Elia (who you may remember from
Whitney) leads the bunch and their off-the-cuff humor will crack you up.
After the screening and a Q&A with the show's producers/writers, guests were invited to pick between
The Big Bang Theory and
MOM. Because I had yet to see the latter I headed to the theater and got cozy as another plate of food was served.
After the episode of
MOM the show's stars, Anna Faris and Allison Janney, showed up for some conversation with the audience and prank calls to moms, including Anna's. These women are exactly the same off the screen as they are on your TV. They joke with one another, laugh like crazy, and genuinely like each other. I always wonder if casts really get along. This one does. Seeing them vibe off each other made me appreciate the show that much more, knowing that their comedic banter is legit. FYI, the show airs Mondays on CBS at 9:30 ET/PT.
Next up was stand-up comedy from the guys of
Undatable. Each of them did a set that had everyone in the audience cracking up. Their personalities are all so different, but equally funny. Hands down, the highlight of the night.
After the standup and a dessert break, we saw another episode of
Undatable, then called it a night.
Overall, it was a blast and a great opportunity to check out shows that I really enjoyed. I hope you check out Undateable, especially. TV needs another good comedy and this one has so much potential. Plus one of the actors,
Brent Morin, is kinda adorable. You'll thank me later, promise!
I'll be sure to keep you updated as to an air date when it's announced.
