Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve

One of my favorite bloggers, Setarra of Quaintrelle, has a new linkup that takes place the last Friday of each month called #ResidentTourist Link Up. The goal is to be a tourist in your own nook of the world. Fun right? I may be a few days late but wanted to join the party, so today I'm blogging about a local adventure I took last week to the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve!

Antelope Valley is in Southern California, but about a two hour drive from where I live so I'd never been. I'd heard about the poppies - California's State Flower - and always wanted to visit so each year but they are only in bloom from mid-March to mid-May when the conditions are right. This year we had a few days of rain, and for our constantly-in-drought-region, that was all the poppies needed to spring up all over.

These images don't really do the flowers justice, but the poppies were so beautiful and plentiful!

Be sure to check out #ResidentTourist Link Up! And if you live in SoCal, a trip to the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve is a must. With the rain we got this weekend the conditions are expected to be even better than those I experienced.

I've never heard of this before!! do you remmeber in elementary school...if you somehow had a poppy flower you would put it under your chin to get the glow of the flower reflected onto your face? i think it was a 6th grade science project or something hahahah

1. Thank you soo much for linking up!
2. I had no idea what Cali's national flower was until now so thank you for that lesson.
3. These poppy flowers are so vibrant and gorgeous! I can only imagine how beautiful they looked in real life!
4. Antelope Valley has been added to my ever growing "West Coast To-Do List". Now I just need to get my ass on a plane and actually make it happen. Hopefully sooner than later!!

I grew up in Lancaster and my boyfriend actually grew up way out there just a couple miles away from the poppy fields!
Fun to see you blogging about it. It's about the ONLY nice thing about the Antelope Valley, but hey... I love poppies! :)

Pretty! When I was younger my parents took me and sister out there for the day to see the poppies... only the season was late and they hadn't bloomed yet :(
We ended up going another time to see them but it wasn't this robust, I'll have to go again!
